From Supported Housing to University: Mansfield Resident Celebrates Life-Changing Achievement

YMCA Robin Hood Group is celebrating the inspiring success of one of our Mansfield Supported Housing residents, whose determination and resilience has earned her a place at university to pursue her dream career.

After moving into YMCA supported housing earlier this year, LA set herself an ambitious goal: to rebuild her confidence, continue her education and work towards becoming a Social Worker. With the stability of a safe home and ongoing support from the YMCA team, she remained committed to her studies, travelling regularly from Mansfield to Nottingham College to complete her Access Course. Her hard work has now been rewarded with offers from four universities, and she has accepted a place at Nottingham Trent University, where she will begin studying in September 2026.

Throughout her journey, LA received dedicated support from her Tenancy Sustainment Worker, Donna, who helped her stay focused, overcome challenges and believe in her own potential. Each of us here at YMCA Robin Hood Group is incredibly proud of LA’s achievement, which demonstrates the life-changing difference that the right support at the right time can make. YMCA Robin Hood Group’s Mansfield Supported Housing service provides more than just a roof over someone’s head. It offers young people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity a safe, stable place to live, alongside personalised support to develop independent living skills, improve wellbeing, access education or employment, and build brighter futures.

LA’s story is a powerful reminder that, with stability, encouragement and opportunity, young people can overcome significant challenges and achieve their ambitions.
